Bess Atwell

When Atwell sings, the world is so beautiful that it hurts, said world producer Aaron Dessner.

The Channel gently laps against the pebbled beach and Bess Atwell's soft voice paints the clouds pink. The music of the singer-songwriter from Brighton is undeniably sentimental, but also particularly optimistic. Since she freed herself from a too high dose of medication and embraced her fears, she sees in more vibrant colors. There is a waltz hidden in her modern, spring-like indie folk; a cautious waltz, with feet in the cold water. The National guitarist Aaron Dessner saw in it what he also saw in Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams when he produced Folklore and Good Riddance respectively: pop music that doesn't need to do a thousand somersaults to find its way to your heart.
