Kinetic Sounds

Special: Sound form & Wouter Snoei

Kinetic Sounds is a sound installation, consisting of a collection of rotating speakers in the space, each with its own shape and identity. You can see Kinetic Sounds as a mechanical version of an orchestra or as an automated ensemble of independently controlled musicians, each having their own sound, character, and movement.

Especially for Into The Great Wide Open, composer Wouter Snoei has composed a new work for Kinetic Sounds; a so-called generative composition, meaning it is not a fixed piece of music that is played, but a living sound work that slowly grows over two days and is never the same. The work is three-dimensional, and the listener hears a different perspective from every spot in the space; some sounds can only be heard when you are very close to the speakers, while others resonate throughout the entire space. In the church of Vlieland, this creates very special sound images.

Note: this work can be found in the Nicolaaskerk at the Dorpsplein, and will only be visible on Thursday, August 29 from 15:00 - 23:00 and Friday, August 30 from 11:00 – 23:00.

On those days, there will also be three live performances; a duet between the installation and a musician, where unexpected impulses are given by the live musicians playing together with the work of Wouter Snoei.

• Lucija Gregov (cello): Thursday, August 29 at 20:30 and Friday, August 30 at 16:15.
• Lise Morrison (church organ): Friday, August 30 at 11:00

During these concerts, there will be limited space and the doors will close. So, come on time!
