The Mary Wallopers

Ruthless punk band follows in the deeply cut footprints of Shane MacGowan with flute and fiddle.

“Folk music is radical music,” says The Mary Wallopers. And those who see the band live can only agree with that. The Irish ensemble sometimes plays ancient traditionals – complete with fiddles and flutes – but they hit like a bomb. And on who exactly they are so angry, there should be no doubt about it on songs like ‘Building Up And Tearing England Down’ and ‘Rich Man And The Poor Man’ (‘The moral of the story is the rich are fucking cuntiums’). Filthy rich or dirt poor – it will be pandemonium anyway. For the Wallopers, every festival field is a packed bar, every crowd a mosh pit in the making. Bruises are a risk, radicalization is guaranteed.
