Studio Wantij
I still remember that - day & night
In the installation I still remember that, Studio Wantij explores our collective memory of winter. What happens when the ice, literally and figuratively, disappears beneath our feet? The installation evokes a sense of loss and longing, inviting the visitor to pause and reflect on a world in transition. Thus, Studio Wantij pays tribute to the memory of winters as we knew them – with frozen ditches, cracking ice, and white fields.
However, the work does not linger in nostalgia. It also looks ahead: how do we deal with loss, with climate change, with the disappearance of what seems self-evident? I still remember that invites reflection and conversation. The work is a place to come together, share memories, and gently form new images of the future - where winter, however ephemeral, becomes momentarily tangible.
About Studio Wantij
Artists Tom Bekkers (1991, NL) and Querine van der Weijde (1990, NL) together form Studio Wantij. A wantij is a place where two tidal currents meet – a place without a clear boundary, sometimes land and sometimes sea. This boundary-blurring way of thinking is central to their work. With their kinetic installations and video work, they offer new perspectives that honor the polyphony of a place. In this way, they make complex ecological themes clear and tangible.
The art program is made possible with support from Mondriaan Fonds and De Versterking.
