Next Space Rebels

More than twenty years ago, John Perry Barlow typed his ‘Declaration of Independence in Cyberspace’[1]. A manifesto with a simple message: Governments cannot and must not govern the internet: “Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.” In the current era of NSA surveillance, China’s Great Firewall, and FBI agents scouring the Dark Net, little remains of his ideals. Groundstation03 is a pilot of the Open-Source Space program Next Space Rebels.
Next Space Rebels is an international community of engineers, software experts, and hackers fighting for the decentralization of space travel and the independence of the internet. Specifically for Into The Great Wide Open, multiple Radome Groundstations have been installed, allowing connectivity within a radius of +/- 80 meters with the Rebel Network; this autonomous satellite network does not involve government censorship, tracking, or privacy violation. During the festival, secret program components will be exclusively shared via the Rebel Network.
