Dub & disco from a dry, boring trio that echoes for days
"They're irreducible", James Murphy once said about dance-punk pioneers ESG. "Super simple, slightly wrong." Similar words apply to the Amsterdam-based Housepainters. The sound of the trio (including members of Teddy's Hit and Mauskovic Dance Band) is incredibly to the point. These are clearly musicians with a (post) punk past who have discovered the endlessly deep dub of Scientist. Listen to their cover of The Modern Lovers' ‘I Wanna Sleep In Your Arms’, or the b-side 'What's a Girl To Do': what there is completely engulfs you. They splash your walls pastel pink and bright turquoise, hang some neon lights from the ceiling, and leave again. It's no-nonsense, irresistible, sunny, and a bit dystopian.
