Floodlines
The video work Floodlines by Marjolijn Boterenbrood was created in the Wadden, a vulnerable area that is under pressure due to climate change. The feeling of threat from rising sea levels forms the basis of this work. During her time as an island artist in Vlieland, Marjolijn captured tidal lines. These became works on paper and canvas, tidal lines with seaweed, washed-up plastic, shells, foam, berries, lichens, and texts. The video is projected in the forest on Vlieland, where you can feel the water rising.
The work she created on Vlieland arose from the phenomena of that place. Here she let the island itself create a body of work. Wind, tides, waves, rain, snow, and organisms in the soil and in the water did - under her direction - the work.
