Into The Great Wide Open collaborated with the Dutch online platform Ambient Curation and invited the creators to work on new music for a week. Brewery Fortuna served as a base, the island as a source of inspiration and instrument. Soon, the sounds of Vlieland found their way into the group’s compositions. The wind, the sand, and birds that herald the morning at five o'clock. Conversations by the tent, a tour by the forest ranger, a poem on the Vliehors Expres.

What began as a collection of musicians from different regions in the Netherlands grew on the island into a close-knit collective, which named itself Belle and began to work on a joint album. Various methods merged: while one digitally distorted recordings of the dunes, another tapped rhythms with branches from the forest, and yet another sought solace on the just slightly out-of-tune piano that was still in Fortuna. The result is as meditative as it is captivating, a capture of grand nature, but also of small moments where new friendships blossom.

Listening session on the Vliehors Expres

During Into The Great Wide Open, a listening session of the album takes place on the Vliehors Expres, the vehicle that makes trips across the sand plain on the west side of the island. Free tickets for this trip can be reserved here. Be quick, as the capacity is limited.
