Buoy Vlieland: SIN▲TθPIUM
SIN▲TθPIUM makes visible what is not directly seen with the naked eye: the natural harmony of waves and patterns. In the middle of the woods, you will find an architectural, serene space in which light, reflections, and the refraction of light play a central role, and where your gaze breaks and distorts for a moment.
The inspiration for this structure originates from the sine wave, a fundamental mathematical concept that helps us understand the cyclical nature in the world, such as the waves of light, patterns in water, sound waves, seismic waves, and the movement of atoms. The roof of the building gently undulates. At the moment when the sun is directly above the space, the color shades and the enchantment of the broken light become visible.
SIN▲TθPIUM asks us questions about the dichotomy between the artificial and the natural, and how these may be closer to each other than we think. It invites reflection on the relationship between humanity, nature, and the artificial.
Heleen Blanken is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Amsterdam. She works in various disciplines including video, scenography, installation, and sculpture. In her practice, Heleen Blanken questions the tension between the human and the organic and explores the different layers of our aesthetic perception of the natural environment.
