The Niemanders are musicians who may be talked about a lot, but who still have too little opportunity to speak for themselves. On the first Niemanders album (from 2020), that was made up of detainees; now Rocco Ostermann, Wout Kemkens, and Rick Wiegerinck (former) asylum seekers are helping to provide a platform. The live shows are an international patchwork: a Syrian opera veteran, an Iranian blues guitarist, and a Somali R&B singer proudly wave the golden flag that also decorates the cover of Niemanders II – a rescue blanket, a sign of solidarity across the full width of the horizon. That it is more necessary than ever is evident from the fact that a part of the Niemanders has already been deported.
