Martin Toloku
Yali
Yali is an interactive work where sound, sculpture, and architecture come together. A series of doors are arranged in a circle, inviting you to enter the world of the artist.
The work reminds us of the rituals associated with the disintegration of the human body and its relationship with nature, but at the same time shows a symbol of new life emerging from the earth. Death gives rise to a new form of exchange between the earth and its inhabitants; Martin thus creates an exchange between the visitor and the work.
About Martin Toloku
Martin Toloku is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice has evolved over the years from wood carving to installation, performance, and video work. He is fascinated by the transience of materials and the memories that reside within them, and explores this theme in an experimental way in relation to time, space, life, and death.
Martin is currently a resident at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende kunsten and a board member of perfocraZe International Artist Residency (pIAR) in Kumasi, Ghana.
The art program of Into The Great Wide Open is made possible with support from the Creative Industries Fund and The Strengthening.
