Cathedral - day & night
Cathedral is a textile and architectural intervention in nature - an invitation to silence and a renewed perspective on the surroundings. Composed of fine threads, Cathedral appears as a semi-transparent structure, constantly shifting and changing through light and movement. Inspired by stained glass windows, where color and form are used to convey stories, the installation evokes similar moments of contemplation.
In contrast to traditional cathedrals that are built from solid materials such as stone and glass, this structure is temporary and responsive, monumental in scale but delicate in presence. It does not dominate the landscape, but harmonizes with it. Cathedral is a space where nature, structure, and the wandering visitor meet, while constantly influencing each other.
About Paul Verheul
Paul Verheul (1990, UK) lives and works in Groningen. He aims to expand the possibilities of painting by testing its boundaries and by redefining concepts traditionally associated with this medium: transparency, layering, and light. His oeuvre forms an immersive interpretation of the landscape, responding to the horizon, contours, vanishing points, and the rhythms of nature. Textile, with its equally intrinsic logic of counting and repeating, is employed both as a method and a metaphor, as a record of movement and a representation of a journey.
The art program is made possible with support from Mondriaan Fonds and De Versterking.
