Everything Is Recorded
Producer and record label owner conjures community (and a wealth of famous voices) from a box
As the founder of the record label XL Recordings, Richard Russell is a major player in the industry: over the past thirty years, he has signed artists such as Adele, Gil Scott-Heron, Vampire Weekend, The Prodigy, and Radiohead, which has released all its albums since In Rainbows. In recent years, Russell has also contributed his own musical input in the form of Everything Is Recorded: a cut-and-paste production project in the spirit of The Avalanches and The Books, where the label head optimally exploits his network. Who now appears in his electro-acoustic cacophony? Is that the voice of Florence Welch!? Sampha? Kamasi Washington? Bill Callahan? Noah Cyrus!? Norm Macdonald? The mother of Nick Drake!? More and more souls, more and more joy – until you feel connected with everything.
