Yuri Ancarani

The Whipping Zombie

In a cemetery in a remote village in Haiti, Yuri Ancarani captures the ritual ceremony for the first time. Goats jump from grave to grave while a number of people have danced through the night and welcome the sun. The dance is a ritual between slaves and masters: the so-called whipping zombie ritual. Men hit and fight each other to trance-like music until they die and are reborn in the infinite circle.
