Curving Tides

Curving Tides is an audiovisual augmented experience where visitors see virtual holograms appear in the physical environment through a telescope. Floating landscapes that undulate in time, changing in shape, texture, and behavior. The location-specific work explores changes in the landscape of Vlieland, where nothing can be captured and everything is in motion.

Aspects of time that are not directly linear and measurable or not perceivable by human senses become tangible, stretching out in multiple directions. A significant role in this is played by the dynamics between wind, water, and sand; the artificial and the natural; present, past, and future; subjective and objective observations.

Gabey Tjon a Tham visited the island several times over the past year for field research and immersed himself in the biodiversity and the processes that shape the island for the development of this new work.
