Progressive pop music that never loses sight of its roots in African blues and gospel.
Lubiana, not to be confused with the Slovenian capital, is an artist that you certainly should not confuse with anyone else. The Belgian-Cameroonian singer distinguishes herself partly thanks to her virtuosic playing on the kora, a West African harp disguised as a guitar carved from fruit, with 21 strings, of which the late Toumani Diabaté was the main ambassador. Shortly after his death, the same Diabaté made an appearance on Lubiana's second album Terre Rouge (2024), as if he wanted to stamp his footprints one last time. Lubiana, who not only references her Cameroonian roots in her music but is also inspired by the progressive soul of Erykah Badu and Sade, seems ready to follow in those footsteps.
