Marathon
Even after ten years of building a sound, Marathon still sounds chillingly raw.
Once frontman Joe Casey of the highly uncomfortable Protomartyr apologized at De Open Plek for the nice weather. That certainly wasn’t appropriate. We secretly hope that there is plenty of precipitation in the air when Marathon takes the stage. The Amsterdam band shares a bit of Protomartyr’s unyielding melancholy. The Irish dreariness of The Murder Capital also resonates in the swirling shoegaze of the five friends. In a track like 'Shadow Raised a Star’, you can hear them passively building a magnificent sound wall – only to then grab a jackhammer themselves. Eyes far away, head in the rain. You’ll have fun elsewhere.
