Billie Marten
Sensitive British folk singer offers peace and coolness in a haze of future memories.
That Isabella Sophia Tweddle chose not to use her own name but 'Billie Marten' was mainly because she was barely twelve when she shared her first songs on YouTube. Over twelve years later, it has become an excellent hideaway. There is no who, what, where outside of her songs. They are songs in which you can nestle comfortably, forgetting the now or later for a moment. She sometimes sings very softly, like Nick Drake in the opening moments of 'Pink Moon', or Laura Marling when her daughter is sleeping, but that soothing is increasingly accompanied by beautifully layered instrumentation, unabashed joie de vivre and the determined nostalgia of someone 'with a very meticulous long-term memory.'
