Eigengrau Pavilion - day & night
Eigengrau Pavilion is a 360° sensory environment where light and darkness play with each other. The work derives its name from the German word for 'intrinsically gray' – the color that many people see in the absence of light. In this unique inflatable space, filled with mist, you experience a kind of modern ritual, where the boundaries of the spaces blur.
The dome is inspired by the Movie-Drome (1965) by Stan VanDerBeek, a pioneer of the expanded cinema movement, who redefined cinema by bringing it back to the core elements: light, space, and time. By playing with these elements, Zalán challenges the boundaries of perception, taking you on an abstract journey where reality and illusion merge.
Made possible by the Creative Industry Stimulus Fund and the Dutch Film Fund.
About Zalán Szakács
Zalán Szakács (1992, Hungary) is an artist who combines immersive art, scenography, and media historical research. With his work, Zalán explores the relationship between space, body, and technology, resulting in multi-sensory experiences with elements such as light, sound, smell, time, tangibility, and movement. Zalán's art installations invite you on a mystical journey where reality and fiction blend into one another. Tailored to both individual and collective experience, they evoke a deeper awareness of the body in space and transport you to another place and time.
