Epiphany
Epiphony is a work that explores the interpersonal space between two people. The mutual emotional state of being is measured by heart rate and electrodermal activity and translated into sound: The higher the excitement, the greater the conductivity of the skin increases, as well as the heart rate. Through backcasting the internal process of the two who are 'only together', this private experience is shared. The only way to unravel the mystery of the other and being together is by listening.
About the artists
This work was developed by Görkem Arıkan (TR), Francesco Di Maggio (IT), and Alida Glasbeek (NL). Görkem and Francesco are both studying at the Department of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Görkem works as an artist on self-made interactive systems to perform live computer music; Francesco works from a strong interest in electro-acoustic music, audiovisual composition, and interactive installations. Alida is a visual artist studying the Masters in ArtScience at the Royal Academy of Art The Hague and has a background in Graphic Design. Her works and installations often involve manipulations of the (inter)personal space. The three artists met during a 'CASS exchange workshop' during their studies. Here, the first prototype of 'Epiphony' was created. Their different backgrounds provide the necessary elements to create this enchanting sensory experience as a whole.
