Vestibular S. Observatory
The inverted dome on the old inland dune is the sundial of the Vestibular S. Observatory. In this observatory, the sound and light of Vlieland and the Wadden Sea are aligned. Below and above the surface, audible and inaudible, day and night, we learn how it sounds underwater, and we follow the traces of our presence deep in the sea.
About the artists
Robertina Šebjanič (1975) is based in Ljubljana (SI) and is an internationally exhibited and award-winning artist. Her work has been focused for several years on cultural, (bio) political, and biological realities of aquatic environments, which serve as a starting point for exploring and addressing philosophical questions at the intersection of art, technology, and science.
Arnout Meijer (1988) lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied at the Delft University of Technology (2006-2008) and the Design Academy Eindhoven (2008-2012) after which he started his own practice. He is represented by gallery VIVID in Rotterdam and gallery Victor Hunt in Brussels. His self-initiated and commissioned work includes various disciplines, ranging from artworks, public sculptures, texts, product design to architecture.
