Jurjen Alkema and Andrea Dröes

[tick]

[tik] is a light artwork and site-specific composition in one, which makes both the chaotic and geometrically ordered properties of nature audible and visible.

The installation consists of 48 mechanical boxes in the forest, which produce sound and light. The layout of the area can be seen as a field with points that all function as individual sound sources. This allows sound to travel around the installation. The ticking and glowing field with trees creates an intriguing contrast between nature and culture; chaos and structure; and rhythmic and organic forms. [tick] is like a large musical instrument with 48 keys, spread across the space. However, all the keys of this instrument sound more or less the same. Thus, the composition is not so much about melody and tone, but about rhythm and space.

Andrea Dröes and Jurjen Alkema are visual artists with a passion for video and light. They create (audio)visual experiences, installations, and sets for festivals, theater, and concerts. Their work arises from a collaborative experiment to create spatial objects, projections, sound, and light installations to transform spaces or landscapes. Previously, they worked together for many years as part of the former three-person collective Blauwe Uur. They were also part of the art program in 2012 and 2016.
