The Sitting
The Union in resistance
Where a cabinet falls, society rises. But what does the public think?
The democratic rule of law is wobbling. The world order, seemingly built on international law and human rights, is cracking under autocratic pressure. In the Netherlands and beyond, more and more people are seeking solace in strong leaders and empty promises.
While world leaders are embroiled in scandals, crimes, and genocides, it seems that every exposé slides off them – or makes them even more popular. Governments, including the Dutch one, remain silent, bend with the power, and seek applause rather than taking responsibility.
How does a person rise up? What does this resistance look like – against these leaders, or against the system itself? Is it time for restoration, or should we rather say goodbye to an old, mean world?
During The session, we present these questions to the audience. To investigate what is still right – and what needs to be put right. With Sinan Çankaya, Jerry Afriyie and Tamar de Waal.
