village street 3
Unruly, post-industrial post-punk, polluted by lead and coal.
“People are being murdered in Velsen-Noord,” sang Hang Youth at ‘TATA STEEL’. In that respect, the criticism from dorpsstraat 3 about the debilitating construction of the Dutch heavy industry is somewhat subtler. The group with mythical origins (according to tradition, the friends stumbled over a box of synthesizers and ZZ & De Maskers LPs in the vacant house of the local priest) debuted this year with a haunting concept album about a decaying factory village, Steel On Steel – and even the musical touchstones come from the decade in which so many Western European factories left for low-wage countries. Thus, dorpsstraat 3 crashes like D.A.F. and De Div and grinds as harshly as De Kift.
