Somewhere between Death Cab and Born to Run, Wild Pink creates catchy tunes out of daydreams.
More than ten years later, the shockwaves of The War On Drugs' Lost in the Dream are still palpable. Wild Pink is one of those bands for whom heartland rock is now very much in vogue. The New Yorkers create expansive Americana full of grand moments, but with a bit of extra grit. As if Tom Petty were playing with Dinosaur Jr. instead of The Heartbreakers. John Ross is far too eccentric as a songwriter to be compared to Petty or Springsteen. He whisper-sings about Michael Jordan's black beret, a rust-colored Irish setter, and castles with gas pumps. And yet, you throw your hands in the air as if it’s 'Dancing in the Dark'.
