Among the announced acts is The Whitest Boy Alive, the German-Norwegian group led by Erlend Øye, known for their timeless mix of indie and dance music and still loved by a global audience, even twenty years after their debut album. Øye has appeared multiple times over the years with different formations at Into The Great Wide Open, becoming a familiar face at the festival.

Baxter Dury, the indie talk singer who has transformed into the shaman of the dance floor, will close the main stage on Thursday. From Dublin comes Madra Salach to the island. Class struggle and drunken revelry go hand in hand in their raw, modern-traditional repertoire, where ballads are stretched with both acoustic and electronic drone sounds. Also performing: SMIB, the hip-hop collective from Bijlmer, and Sophie Straat, the chanson and punk singer with topical protest songs.

Also announced: IJSLAND, the socially critical dance group on the volcano of Abel and Sef, Brìghde Chaimbeul, the Scottish bagpiper who draws from Celtic folklore, and the disturbing alt-country band Wednesday. In addition to these established names, there is plenty of room for new voices: emerging Dutch acts like C'est Qui?, IDA, plonki, and stay away from dante! will prove themselves on Vlieland.

Behind this year's poster design are not one, but two designers in residence: Ilse and Bas from SIVK (@studioilsevanklei). Together they form a graphic design duo. For Into The Great Wide Open, they incorporate sound into the visual identity of this edition. More to come, also about the special bond the designers have with the island.
