corto.alto

There is hardly a better way to get acquainted with the wonderful world of Scottish jazz fusion.

It is the New London Jazz that, typically, often gets the attention. But proof that plenty of exciting things are also being made in the north of the UK comes from the Glaswegian corto.alto, the project built around trombonist Liam Shortall. His lush brass work, coupled with minimalist, breakbeat-like percussion, immediately gets you dancing, but there is so much more happening beneath the surface. The friction and the shine lie in the variable line-up. Are they perfectly tuned in to one another? Yes of course, but there is never a sense of routine. corto.alto knows exactly whom to invite to turn things upside down again.
