There is hardly a better way to get acquainted with the wonderful world of Scottish jazz fusion.

It is the New London Jazz that, how typical, often receives the attention. But that there are also many exciting things being made in the north of the UK is proven by the Glaswegian corto.alto, the project around trombonist Liam Shortall. His lush brass work, combined with the minimalist, breakbeat-like percussion, instantly makes you want to dance, but beneath the surface there is so much more happening. The friction and shine lie in the variable instrumentation. Are they great at playing together? Yes of course, but there is never any question of getting used to it. corto.alto knows exactly who to invite to turn things a little upside down.
