Nusantara Beat

Groove gurus build glittering bridges over the Karimata Strait and the Java Sea.

As a replacement for the overcrowded and slowly sinking Jakarta, Indonesia is now building a sustainable, futuristic new capital on Borneo, namely Nusantara, a name that is meant to embody the entire archipelago. The band Nusantara Beat (with super-virtuoso members from EUT, Altin Gün, Jungle By Night, and POM) may be 'just' from Amsterdam, but the members feel strongly connected to Indonesia through their roots: the landscape, the folklore, and of course the music. Just like Nusantara, the city, they translate a wealth of deeply rooted traditions – gamelan, keroncong, but also psychedelic rock – into a hopefully glorious, tropical future. It already buzzes like no other.
