With the folk duo Sarah Julia, multi-instrumentalist Kaya dominates the global folk playlists, and on her own, she also seeks out quietness - though her solo work is allowed to have a bit more of an edge. On her debut EP In the Belly of the Whale, she embraces danger a bit more, with an intensity reminiscent of Adrienne Lenker and Elliott Smith. A warm pluck and her dark vocals: nothing more is needed to make the Wadden Sea lap threateningly.
