SMIB
Collective from Bijlmer was always multidisciplinary, but now also dangerously disciplined.
SMIB has always been everything. Clothing brand, film production company, publishing house, record label, festival. And oh yeah, also a hip-hop collective – with individual members who did all kinds of other things themselves (Ray Fuego, Nnelg, GRGY, Loopey). Almost five years went by without any music released under the collective name, but now SMIB has been back for a while, 'and this is the golden age'. EENDRAGHT MAECKT MAGHT is the title of the latest record (named after the motto of the seafaring Dutch Republic and still that of hip-hop cradle Brooklyn) and as a unity, SMIB indeed makes more of an impression than ever. No loose productions and strung-together verses, but symbiosis: hard-hitting one-two-threes and pitch-black beats that knock you off your feet time and again.
