SMIB
Collective from Bijlmer was always multidisciplinary, but now also dangerously disciplined.
SMIB has always been everything. Clothing brand, film production company, publishing house, record label, festival. And oh yes, also a hip-hop collective – with individual members who did all kinds of other things themselves (Ray Fuego, Nnelg, GRGY, Loopey). For almost five years, no music was released under the collective name, but now SMIB has been back for a while 'and this is the golden age'. EENDRAGHT MAECKT MAGHT is the title of their latest record (after the motto of the seafaring Dutch Republic and still that of hip-hop cradle Brooklyn) and as a unity, SMIB indeed makes more of an impression than ever. No loose productions and strung-together verses, but symbiosis: hard-hitting one-two-threes and pitch-dark beats that blow you off your feet time and again.
SMIB can also be seen on Saturday as co-curator of The Chop Session (dinner) of The Chop Bar by The Jollof Club.
