Sophie Street

There is not much to celebrate in the world, but here is the proof that a protest can also be a party.

Voting is meaningful. With the help of the Dolle Mina's – reborn out of necessity in 2025 – 'Freedom, Equality, Sisterhood' by Sophie Straat landed at number 713 in the Top 2000, after the song had earlier been embroiled in a streaming battle with an unnamed, far-right AI song. But resistance against rising fascism requires more. Thankfully, the Amsterdam Street, besides the tearjerkers with which it made its name, now has enough in its arsenal to help us along the way. A song like 'Let me tell you something 'bout my country' is a great conversation starter: what kind of country are we? What kind of country do we want to be? And if that conversation doesn’t get started? Then it’s still nice to have a rave in the accompanying punk basket.
