The Union protests once again

On the barricades and in everyday actions

At Into The Great Wide Open, the Unie rises in resistance - on the barricades and in everyday actions. Because resistance takes many forms. Sometimes in independent journalism, activism, or art. And sometimes it lies precisely in an open conversation, a community meal, or insulating your house.

In the Unie programme, we talk about all forms of resistance, with all kinds of resistance heroes: musicians, poets, actors, policymakers and festival visitors. How can we organize ourselves in times when disorder is the order of the day? How do we get off our island, and how do we get moving as citizens – in both big and small ways? All of this with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as our continuous guide.

Because in times of fragmentation, it is important to keep the conversation going. That is why De Unie is opening its doors wide. Pull up a chair with Vlielanders who open their doors to visitors (and ITGWO staff) to eat together. Listen to how soft powers have been formed in response to Jerry Afriyie's call last year: who will take over the baton? Or in the Nicolaaskerk, where many voices pay tribute to Lieke Marsman's 'Dichter en de Duivel'.
