Paul Adamah, beter bekend als Boko Yout, groeide op in Zweden met Ghanese wortels en een eindeloze nieuwsgierigheid naar muziek in al haar vormen. Zijn zelfbenoemde afro-grunge is maar één gezicht van een bredere, eclectische zoektocht: van triphop tot indiepop, van intieme ballads tot rauwe energie. In zijn songs klinken persoonlijke verhalen en culturele referenties door, verpakt in melodieën die je bijblijven. Live gaat Boko Yout nog een stap verder: muziek, performance en mode vloeien samen tot een gelaagde totaalervaring die zowel confronteert als troost.
For LULU, everything in life starts with beat. As long as the 22-year-old can remember, her father played the talking drum and Lauryn Hill and Highlife echoed through the house. She no longer goes to the church where she learned to sing, but the inspiration is far from gone. It all lies in the uplifting combination of soul and afrobeat with which the British-Nigerian singer is now making a name for herself. And beyond those irresistible rhythms? Behind them lies a sensitive storyteller. Dear Disorientated Soul is the title of her debut EP – and to all disoriented souls, including herself, LULU addresses herself when she sings: 'I know there is beauty where pain is.'
