Wazo Bean
Amsterdam jazz organism guided by the rhythm of the planet
Eager listeners of capital jazz and soul may have already encountered (members of) Wazo Bean – in BIMHUIS or De Roode Bioscoop. For those who do not go there, it will be a pleasant introduction this summer. Except for a single live session, nothing of theirs can be heard online yet – so let the magic of the collective wash over you en plein air. The magnetic center is the Spanish-Scottish singer Carolina Gemmel, who prefers to sing about whimsical octopuses and pools full of female toads, thereby evoking the animal instincts of her bandmates. Yes, they almost all come from the Amsterdam Conservatory, but sound just as intuitive and unpredictable as Gal Costa or Erykah Badu.
