The Hobknobs

Thoughtful guitar pop – two close friends in conversation on a long, straight forest path

After Lewsberg played their last(?) show, now some two years ago, the Netherlands was suddenly lacking in high-quality, no-nonsense jangle rock. Quite a loss, but fortunately we now have The Hobknobs, consisting of Arie van Vliet (Lewsberg) and Yaël Dekker (The Klittens). The two share vocals, resulting in a slightly less concrete 'twee pop' sound. Because of the harmony singing – him slightly detached, her with some frills – a summer breeze blows through. You could even call it cheerful, the kind of joy we know from Jonathan Richman. But just like with Richman, the evening sun has a concealing effect: a manifesto is hiding somewhere here.
