The Hempolics

Well-matured reggae for a dangerously relaxed summer afternoon

Grippa Laybourne already had half a career behind him, working behind the mixing desk for artists like Faithless and Dido, when the time came to truly make his own voice heard. He is the undisputed MC of the sound system called The Hempolics, but he has gathered some of London's sharpest reggae musicians around him. The great example seems to be Toots and the Maytals – and just like The Maytals, The Hempolics blend political consciousness with pure pleasure. So, a Sade cover is definitely welcome to be played.
