Precisely out of love for Latin American folklore, all tradition is turned upside down here
Bolivian cumbia is undergoing a transformation u2013 thanks to the wacky fairground operators of Los Thutanaka and the somewhat more sensitive but no less obstinate Susobrino. Just like Los Thutanaka, Susobrino creates his work far from Bolivia, in this case from Brussels, but he knows damn well which traditions he is throwing into the blender. Sometimes he keeps a low profile, as on his nostalgic and mostly acoustic four-part release SU, SO, BRI and NO (2024), but on the quite literally infectious 'Cumbia De La Chikungunya' (a reference to a mosquito-borne virus), Suso is his most feverish self.
