Steven Bamidele deals in contrasts. How could it be otherwise, when as a child you move from Nigeria to a medieval wool town in England? Bamidele's cool, sometimes chilly, minimalist instrumentation goes exceptionally well with the warmth of his voice. Although he describes his music as 'cosmic soul', Radiohead is perhaps his most frequently mentioned influence. Like Thom Yorke, Bamidele knows how to convert desolation, loneliness, and existential dread into something that is above all uplifting. His pitch-perfect, somewhat languid vocals offer support, even if you are holding onto a balloon dragging you up into the sky.
