Noise rockers from a beleaguered community invoke the right to self-defense
The Wall Street Journal recently called Dearborn, Michigan 'America's Jihad Capital' – a textbook example of the Islamophobia that has been so deeply ingrained in the US since 'September 11,' as Dearborn natives Prostitute know. The noise-rock band debuted in 2024 with Attempted Martyr, an album that was already more or less finished before 'October 7,' but that perfectly captures the anger at all the evil tolerated under the banner of 'anti-terrorism.' Prostitute shares its deafening cynicism with another Michigan band – Protomartyr, which once made the sun disappear on Vlieland – but adds a hefty dose of metal to that post-punk sound. So that it sounds exactly angry enough: “dedicated to Lebanon, from Dearborn with love.”
