Muskila & Simona Abdallah

Unlikely duo translates Arabic music traditions to a club setting

In Muskila's meters-deep dub with a traditional accent, one can already get quite lost. That much is clear on his most recent solo album, JAH NAM (2025). But the Kurdish producer knew: it can go even deeper, specifically with live percussion by Danish-Palestinian Simona Abdallah, one of the first female musicians to master the darbuka (a richly decorated kind of goblet drum). At the intersection of composition and improvisation, acoustic and electronic, traditional and hyper-modern, and firmly anchored in tireless, pan-Arab resistance, the two keep your heart rate high.
