MONOPOLY - Dag & Nacht
Op het strand staat een lichtgroen huisje. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt het een klassiek Monopoly-huis, maar in werkelijkheid is het een groene replica van de hut van de Unabomber, de terrorist die decennialang explosieven verstuurde naar protagonisten van de technologiecultuur. Ook de kleur is anders, een lichtere tint groen: chroma key-kleur (RAL 6038 / #00b140), oftewel de kleur die gebruikt wordt voor greenscreen-opnames. Waar het bordspel wonen reduceert tot ruilwaarde, maakt deze kleurkeuze elke visuele invulling mogelijk. Is de gevel eigenlijk een greenscreen-achtergrond waar het uiteindelijke videomateriaal nog in gemonteerd moet worden? En waarom staat het op de Vliehors, het enige militaire oefengebied in Europa waar NATO-gevechtsvliegtuigen trainen met scherpe bommen?
MONOPOLY is een scherp visueel essay over technoculturele macht, militarisering van het landschap en de frictie tussen economie, representatie en leefomgeving.
About Dani Ploeger
Dani Ploeger explores conflict and crisis situations at the margins of high-tech consumer culture. His work encompasses a wide range of forms: from digital media, installations, and film, to performance, anarchist technology, and anthropological fieldwork. It is shown at museums, biennials, and festivals such as ZKM Karlsruhe, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Venice Architecture Biennale, London Film Festival, Nairobi National Museum, and the Ethnographic Museum in Lviv. He certainly does not go unnoticed; his work about the Rojava Center for Democratic Technologies in North-East Syria, for instance, received a Prix Ars Electronica Honorary Mention and was nominated for the S+T+ARTS Prize – the European Commission's prize for science, technology, and art.
Dani holds a PhD from the University of Sussex and was, among other roles, Professor of Performance and Technology at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Currently, he is the artistic director of Fabricatie, a platform for artistic research into industrialisation and industrial culture in Zeeland, and is a Fellow at V2_Lab for the Unstable Media in Rotterdam.
