Gingerbread & Joost Oomen

The house poet has energy for five – so there’s definitely still room for a wildly zany jazz band too

Anyone who hears a mischievous "HALLÓÓÓÓÓ ALLEMAAL" echoing across the Sportveld knows who is on their way. Listening to the endless cheerfulness of Joost Oomen is becoming just as much a fixed Vlieland staple as waiting for the Bolder and laughing at the Kolderkrant. But anyone who would have bet money that the poet would appear on stage with a free jazz band this year is buying the apple juice. The Frisian Kruidkoek (not to be confused with the gingerbread snack) plays its 'garage jazz' with tasteful Latin influences and, above all, plays faster and faster. While the sax sounds increasingly distorted, Oomen seems to slowly lose his mind – until his recitation about little fruits degenerates into a cheerful tirade, which not only makes you smile but also makes you want to mosh to in a very sweet way.

Kruidkoek & Joost Oomen is a production of Explore The North.
