DATUM

Artist Dani Ploeger presents his trilogy of experimental short science fiction films in which near-possible technological futures are explored in relation to waste, violence, and intimacy. This program lasts 70 min.

The Cults

Dani Ploeger, 2021, 6’

The Cults transposes an early 20th-century colonial text about a Kenyan anti-European cult into a future technoculture. In a dystopian landscape of endless waste – filmed at the Dandora dumpsite in Nairobi – a European is still searching for raw materials and worships standardized digital gadgets. Meanwhile, three women create a mythical living world with repurposed waste technologies.

Bunkeridylle

Dani Ploeger, 2024, 12’

Militants hiding in a World War II bunker in the Zeeland countryside build a weapon from the remnants of high-tech culture. Communicating in the Zeeland dialect with foreign accents, they lead a techno-folkloric resistance movement against a centralist state. Inspired by theories on violence by Paul Virilio and Jean Baudrillard, they prepare an ultimate act of symbolic terrorism.

The Source

Dani Ploeger, 2026, 16’

In The Source, a nuclear accident that occurred in Georgia in the early 2000s forms the starting point for a radioactive adventure. Members of a matriarchal sect find a mysterious metal object in the forest, which becomes the centerpiece of an intimate ritual. At the end of days, a salvage crew attempts to rescue the lost object from the inferno.
