'New' Flemish dance duo that builds quite a wall of sound with everyday noises
Perhaps you had already concluded this yourself based on the thick, greasy synth sound, but we will already reveal that HATIHATI is a DEEWEE band – originating from Soulwax's boutique label, much like Charlotte Adigéry, Asa Moto, and Bolis Pupul before them. The duo Bart Demey and Tania Gallagher, formerly known as Galacticamendum, offers a delightfully chunky amalgam of dance styles. We hear DEVO interpolations, dizzying sample work (mostly of self-recorded, everyday sounds), and balearic beats with the bass scaled up to the maximum. The two may be veterans of the Flemish scene by now, but just like the boutique owners, they know how to keep things sharp and exciting.
