Climax after climax, crying a little harder each time: a proven indie recipe that hasn't tasted this good in a long time
Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes are healing on a low burner, Broken Social Scene proved to be alive and kicking earlier this year, but it is beyond dispute that a new generation of tortured indie rock expressionists has risen long ago. If Friko is not the leader of the pack, they are at least the best student in the class. Niko Kapetan has just as unbalanced a vibrato as Conor Oberst and paints his pent-up emotions perhaps even more fiercely and with even more umph. Whether the band will become just as big in the current landscape remains to be seen, but with their maximalist arrangements, they have long outgrown the makeshift scene in Chicago that also produced Horsegirl alongside Friko.
