As a gap year kid, Dermot Henry was sitting in a Paris cafe reflecting on life when someone on stage forgot the lyrics to Elizabeth Cotten's 'Freight Train'. Naturally, Henry jumped in to help. The now 23-year-old singer-songwriter from ridiculously idyllic Wiltshire has spent his entire young life swimming in songs that just missed the Juno soundtrack: fingerpicked folk and twee pop, as vulnerable as it is humorous. Born too late perhaps, or maybe just in the nick of time, because together with Jacob Alon and Dove Ellis, Henry is leading a new guard of British and Irish nightingales with holes in their socks.
