Brother Wallace

Evangelical powerhouse feels equally at home in a funk band

Hello there. Brother Wallace captains his soul sound as if it were a matter of life or death, with so much passion that any ammeter would blow. No wonder he named his debut album Electric Love; no wonder, too, that at the age of fourteen he was already the designated conductor of a hundred-piece church choir in West Point, Georgia. With one foot he still stands in that gospel choir, and with the other in his own Parliament-Funkadelic, so easily does Brother Wallace switch between pure inspiration and extravagant music of the future, between the holy spirit and the mothership connection.
