A Fox Under a Pink Moon

Mehrdad Oskouei, IR, 2025, 76’

LOCATION

Podium Vlieland

Soraya is a headstrong young Afghan woman trying to flee Iran to be with her mother in Austria. In this self-portrait, she weaves poignant footage of her escape attempts with political news from Afghanistan and videos of herself singing and dancing. Soraya filmed all the footage herself with her mobile phone from the age of 16. That material is interspersed with surreal animations, in which she pours all her worries, happiness, observations, and fears. She is determined to shape her own future. A Fox Under a Pink Moon won the award for Best International Documentary at IDFA 2025.
