The Good Journey
A large part of the carbon footprint of Into The Great Wide Open – and most other festivals – is not at the festival itself, but in the travel to get there. Almost half of the emissions come from visitor transport, mainly from fossil-fueled cars. Things are heading in the right direction, because for the first time in 2025, more than half of the visitors (51%) traveled sustainably to the festival. However, the other 49% still drove about 1.2 million fossil kilometers in total. That is a shame, because the alternatives are there, and they are more fun.
That is why we are making fossil-free travel even easier this year with the Good Travel Planner. This new tool creates a ready-made, sustainable travel plan for you. The only thing you need to do? Enter your place of residence, travel company, amount of luggage, and preferences. Plan your Good Journey here.
This year, the €15 Good Journey surcharge is once again included with every ticket. Those who travel sustainably can reclaim this amount. Do you, as a visitor, decide to leave the surcharge? Then it automatically goes to the Transition Fund.
Personalize
After purchasing tickets, we ask you to personalize the festival tickets. This can be done immediately, but can also be done at a later time, until the start of the festival. You can do this via the confirmation email from Paylogic. Did you buy tickets for your friends? Then we also ask you to personalize your friends' tickets. They will receive a confirmation by email. It is possible to change the name on your personalized ticket. Go to 'Order status' via your confirmation email from Paylogic, at the bottom of the email. You can change the name on the ticket via the 'Name change' button. If it doesn’t work, you can also take a look at the explanation from Paylogic. Stortemelk camping vouchers, vouchers for De Lange Paal, and children's tickets (ages 4 to 17) do not need to be personalized.
Lost your ticket?
Through this link you can easily view your order and have access to your tickets.
Sell ticket(s)?
Do you still have a ticket left after July 13th that you want to sell? Then you can offer your ticket from July 15th at 10:00 AM on the Resale Platform.
From February 2nd at 12:00 PM until July 13th at 12:00 PM, it was possible to offer festival tickets and vouchers for De Lange Paal on the Waiting List. In the confirmation email from Paylogic, there is a 'MyOrder' button. There you can indicate which tickets you want to offer.
Only the original buyer – also known as the main buyer – can offer tickets and receive a refund. This also applies if tickets have already been personalized or transferred to another name via a name change.
We do not accept returned tickets.
Tickets via third parties
Into The Great Wide Open does not sell tickets through third parties. To minimize the risk of ticket resale at extortionate prices, tickets are only sold via our own website, De Wachtlijst (The Waiting List) or the Resale Platform. If you are unable to secure tickets during the pre-sale of Into The Great Wide Open, please never buy your ticket(s) through channels that do not belong to us. Check Weet Waar Je Koopt (Know Where You Buy) for a virtually complete list of scalpers.
Do you still see an external party selling tickets? Do not be tempted. Such websites operate as follows: they often offer tickets for sale even before the official sale has started. They assume they can obtain tickets, only to sell them on at higher prices. However, those channels have the same chance of obtaining tickets as any other potential buyer, as we will never cooperate with them. It is good to know that we only send the e-tickets to the ticket buyers shortly before the festival. By sending tickets somewhat later, we hope to prevent the circulation of invalid tickets.
Mobile Tickets Only
To combat black market activities, we work at Into The Great Wide Open with Mobile Ticket Only. You can view and manage your order via the button in your confirmation email. No later than 48 hours before the event, your QR code(s) will be made available here. These QR code(s) are your access ticket to the festival.
You can also add the tickets to your Apple or Google Wallet on your mobile phone. This way, the QR codes are always available offline. Very handy when the network in Vlieland is not working well.
Buy a ticket?
From February 2nd 12:00 up to and including July 13th 12:00, ticket holders could offer festival tickets and vouchers for De Lange Paal via the Waiting List.
From July 15th 10:00 AM, tickets can be offered on the Resale Platform.
Sustainable travel options
Festival bus: Arriva Touring
From Amsterdam and Utrecht, the most comfortable way to travel to the ferry terminal is with the Fossil-free festival buses from Arriva Touring. A bus runs for almost every boat, and they connect to the departure times of the ferry service. Book your tickets here.
Also register for the giveaway for a chance to win a FIP camping spot at camping Stortemelk. The giveaway runs until August 20th.
Children up to and including 11 years old can travel for free.
Public transport
Harlingen Haven is easily accessible by train and bus around the festival weekend. There are several ways to book your tickets for it:
If you travel with NS, it is advantageous to book a group ticket and/or travel with a joint travel discount.
Are you coming from Friesland or Groningen? For only €12.50 per person, you can travel unlimited all day on all Arriva trains in those provinces. Get your ticket here.
Traveling with NS is entirely fossil-free as they run on 100% wind energy. The section between Leeuwarden and Harlingen Haven with the Arriva train is unfortunately not fossil-free, but we therefore include it in our CO2 cleanup program.
Sailing
The most beautiful way to travel to Vlieland is by sailboat. Every year, a large number of ships from the Brown Fleet cross the Wadden Sea, and there is always room for passengers. In this schedule you will find the ships, departure times, and email addresses. Send an email to the skipper and make the crossing together.
Fossil-free shared car
Take a shared electric car, for example with MyWheels. Enter the code ITGWO-2026 via this link, and get a €20 discount! New members also get an extra 25% off.
Other options are SIXT share, SnappCar, Greenwheels, Free2move or Check. There are charging points in Harlingen-Haven at Long-term Parking (P1/P2/P3) and plenty of fast chargers along the route.
Fossil-free car
Do you have an electric car? Then it's easy: there are charging points in Harlingen-Haven at Long-term Parking (P1/P2/P3) and plenty of fast chargers along the route.
Do you have a diesel car? Then refuel with renewable diesel at one of these 120+ filling stations along the route. This is possible in any diesel vehicle and results in a fossil CO2 reduction of 85%.
Car on fossil fuel = not a good journey
Are you coming by fossil-fuel car anyway? Please consider one last time whether you really can't use a fossil-free travel option this year. Today, there are plenty of affordable fossil-free options available. In any case, make sure your car is as full as possible and use Slinger to fill the empty seats. Together on the way to a climate-positive festival.
There are several parking options near Harlingen Haven. Here you will find the different options in Harlingen and on the route there. You can also reserve your parking space in advance. The Long-term Parking location (a fifteen-minute walk from the terminal) also has a shuttle service to the Rederij Doeksen terminal.
Due to the expected crowds, please ensure you arrive at the parking lot in Harlingen well in time. If you want to catch the ferry without stress, make sure to be there one and a half to two hours before departure. A cup of coffee or an ice cream from Min12 will easily help pass the time.
Bicycles
Biking is the most sustainable way to get to Into The Great Wide Open. Take your time and enjoy a nice ride. Plan the most beautiful bike routes from home to the ferry terminal in Harlingen Haven via Komoot or the route planner of the Cyclists' Union. And don't forget to pump up your tires.

Ferry and other transport
Boat to Vlieland
You travel to Vlieland by ferry from Harlingen Haven. Tickets for the boat from Harlingen to Vlieland can be purchased via Rederij Doeksen. On their website, you can find everything about the rates and timetables for both the ferry service and the express service. You will also find information about luggage transport, taking bicycles onto the ferry, and the facilities in the terminal.
Are you going with multiple festivalgoers? Even then, book your boat tickets separately from each other, because group bookings cannot be split or changed for an individual (if needed).
This year, all boat crossings made by visitors for the festival will once again be made climate-neutral, with the help of the Safe Journey surcharge (Goede Reis-toeslag) included on festival tickets.
Transport on Vlieland
Upon arrival in Vlieland, it is possible to have your luggage delivered to the accommodation for a small fee by Bagagevervoer Vlieland. If desired, the same carrier will bring the bags and suitcases back to the ferry terminal in the harbor. Don't forget to label your luggage with your name.
The festival location is easily walkable, but Vlieland is also great by bike. Bicycle rental shops are located near the ferry terminal.
For all horse lovers, there are also horses and ponies available for rent at one of the two stables on the island.
Buses run from Camping De Lange Paal to the Sports Field (Stop Stortemelk). Check here for the current schedule.
Change boat ticket?
Then you can change this free of charge with Doeksen itself. Ticketswap or other platforms do not work for ferry tickets (and not for festival tickets either).
Rent a bike
Once on Vlieland, it is easy and practical to get around by bicycle. To start looking for your ideal two-wheeler, pedal over to the websites of Jan van Vlieland, Frisia, or Zeelen.
Park your bike at the various festival locations in the designated areas, and not in the first edge of the forest you come across.
The campsite Lange Paal is located a bit further from the festival locations, and therefore we advise festival visitors who have set up their camp there to rent a bicycle. There are also buses running between Lange Paal and the festival grounds according to the regular schedule.
Extra rules for the express service
The fast service to Vlieland is faster, but therefore has less space for luggage. You are allowed to bring a maximum of 2 suitcases. Trolleys are also not permitted. On the normal ferry service, this is allowed.
Overnight stay
Camping: Stortemelk, De Lange Paal or BlueCamp
When buying your festival ticket on January 31, there was also the option to purchase a camping Stortemelk camping voucher, a camping spot at De Lange Paal, or BlueCamp. These options were limited and are now sold out. Vouchers for De Lange Paal can still be offered via The Waiting List.
Camping voucher Stortemelk: voucher for 1 tent spot, max. 4 people | €11,- | max. 2 per order
With this voucher, you can make a reservation for one tent at Campsite Stortemelk for up to four people. The rates for the camping spot itself can be found on the Stortemelk website. The booking link for Stortemelk will be emailed directly to the ticket buyers of Stortemelk Vouchers. This voucher can be redeemed until February 27 at 16:00 hours. Afterwards, it will expire.
Camping spot De Lange Paal: 1 person, 4 nights | €85,- | max. 6 per order
A camping spot at De Lange Paal includes a reservation for one person for four nights (arrival on Wednesday, August 26, or Thursday, August 27). If you wish to stay longer, you can arrange this on-site with the ranger. Regardless of the number of tents you bring, you need a voucher for everyone aged 5 and older.
BlueCAMP arrangement: 2 people, 4 nights | €525,- | max. 2 per order
This arrangement includes a stay for two people for four nights, with a choice of staying from Wednesday to Sunday or from Thursday to Monday, in one of the double BlueCAMP tents at De Lange Paal. Every morning a fresh breakfast is included. If you wish to stay longer, this can be arranged via info@bluecamp.nl.
In the tent:
- 2x air mattress covered with sheets and pillows in cases. Note: bring your own warm sleeping bag!
- 1x reading lamp
- 1x organizer to store your personal belongings
Sleeping boat of Shipping Company Voruit
It is also possible to spend the night on one of the ships of Rederij Vooruit and wake up on the water. You sleep on a boat in the marina of Vlieland, within walking distance of the festival grounds. You can stay in a cabin for 2 people or 4 people. Every morning, the crew of the ship prepares a skipper's breakfast for you. The ships are not only for overnight stays but also for relaxing on deck, playing games in the cozy day room, or enjoying a nice shower. Booking can be done via this link.
Other accommodations
You can also stay in one of the many other accommodations on Vlieland, such as hotels and holiday homes. You can book these, among others, through the site of VVV Vlieland or Op-Vlieland.
Even more Vlieland
Vlieland has more to offer than just Into The Great Wide Open. So definitely come a few days earlier or extend your stay after the festival. Year-round, local entrepreneurs cultivate, grow, create, and produce regional products. Visit Wadden has mapped these entrepreneurs. Literally. Discover them and the island through the inspiration map and experience the richness of the island.
Rent camping gear
You can easily rent camping gear such as a tent, camping chair, or air mattress through Camp Again. You pick up your gear at camping Stortemelk and when you go home, you simply return them there. This saves you from lugging things around and makes sustainable travel easier: for example, take the festival bus to Harlingen. Rent your camping gear here.
Accessibility
Distance festival locations
The distance to the locations varies each year, but in principle, all festival locations are within walking distance of each other. If you prefer to get around by bike on the island, you can rent a bike from the various bike rental companies on the island.
Additional accessible facilities general
Into The Great Wide Open takes place largely in forest and dune areas, where the ground can be soft and bumpy. As a result, not all locations are equally accessible to everyone. Do you need something specific to be able to enjoy Into The Great Wide Open? Please let us know. We are happy to think along with you.
To make use of our extra accessible (EXTO) facilities, you can apply for a special EXTO pass. Please send an email to ticketing@intothegreatwideopen.nl with your request, name and contact details, and preferably do so before Wednesday August 19th, so that we can process your request in time. For other questions or more information, please contact us at info@intothegreatwideopen.nl.
The first time ITGWO
Are you new to Into The Great Wide Open and to Vlieland? It's great that you're going to make the crossing. To help you find your way on the island and at the festival, we would like to share some handy tips. Read more here.
Additional accessibility per location
The Sportveld is reasonably accessible with a wheelchair; De Open Plek and Bij De IJsbaan are less accessible, but not impossible, although it does help to have special off-road tires there. With the EXTO pass, it is also possible to enter the site via another entrance if necessary. Vuurboetsduin is not accessible with a wheelchair. The art program is largely located off the paths, but some works are accessible by wheelchair. You can find out which works these are in the app.
At the festival, there is an extra accessible toilet at the Sportveld, just like in the Bolder. In addition, you will find an extra accessible platform to watch performances at the Sportveld, De Open Plek, and the IJsbaan. Need help? Speak to one of our employees. They will be happy to help you.
At the first aid station at Het Sportveld, you can go to keep medicines cool or, for example, to charge the battery of your electric wheelchair. There is also a nursing room with cooling facilities here.
House rules
Environment and nature
Vlieland has been warmly welcoming us for many years, and we hope it will continue to do so for many more. So think about the environment and keep the island clean. Even if you can't always see it directly or with the naked eye, there are many special and sometimes protected plants and animals to be found on Vlieland. Into The Great Wide Open is extra careful and takes this into account during preparation and setup. We ask you to do the same and only walk on the paths.
Smoking
The summers on Vlieland are often dry. Smoking is therefore only allowed in designated areas. Of course, you put your cigarette in an ashtray designated for that purpose afterwards and certainly not on the ground.
Drugs
Don't do that. If something goes wrong, the nearest hospital can only be reached by boat (and in emergencies by helicopter). Moreover, more than the legally permitted amount of soft drugs is prohibited, just like hard drugs in general. Those caught risk being removed from the festival and the campgrounds. The police regularly conduct checks, both in Harlingen and on Vlieland. Just don't take the risk.
Fire
Open fire is strictly prohibited at the campsites. Lighting a small fire on the beach at night is allowed. Early in the morning, children are running around barefoot again. Therefore, do not leave any mess behind and set a good example for the next generation.
Code of Conduct
Flyers and posters
It is not allowed to distribute flyers or put up posters at the festival locations.
Umbrellas
You may bring your umbrella onto the grounds, but it is not the intention that you raise it in front of the stage. Your fellow visitors also want to see what is happening there. Umbrellas will be confiscated in case of disturbances and unfortunately, we do not have an umbrella park where they can be stored in that case.
Vandalism and graffiti
Strictly forbidden. Anyone caught will be handed over to the police.
Pets
They are not allowed. Animals do not like loud music anyway.
Photography/video/audio
Taking photographs and filming is allowed, but we are not liable for any damage to equipment that occurs during the festival or on our festival grounds. Please share the images with us on social media. We like that.
Respect
Everyone who is present at Into The Great Wide Open is co-responsible for a safe environment. Respect each other and wish everyone a great festival. Physical and verbal violence and any other form of unwanted, (sexual) transgressive behavior will not be tolerated. Do you feel unsafe? Speak to someone from the organization or call 085-3033629. That number is available day and night. In emergencies, always call 112.
Alcohol
Be mindful of your consumption, as it's best for everyone, including yourself. We only serve alcohol to people over 18 years old. You may be asked for your ID, both when exchanging your ticket for a wristband and at the bars.
Rust
Vlieland is an island of peace and space. Respect that. Please also keep in mind that we have many children as guests. Maintain quiet on the campsites at night. At Stortemelk, absolute silence is required from midnight until seven in the morning.
Eten en drinken
We do not accept cans and glassware on the festival grounds. Bringing your own food and drinks is also not allowed (except for water). Please keep this in mind at the entrance gates. There are plenty of options on the grounds to enjoy delicious food, and outside the grounds, you are of course allowed to consume your own snacks. Due to our permit and to reduce littering no drinks purchased on the premises may be taken outside, so please consume them at the stages where you bought them.
