Job Descriptions
Into The Great Wide Open 2024
Please find below which volunteering jobs are available at Into The Great Wide Open, and what they entail:
Deconstruction
After the festival ends, you and a whole team will make sure everything looks like it used to. During the festival you are free, you start on Sunday evening with the first tasks. The highlight for you will be the ‘breekfeest’. If you indicate your preference for deconstruction in your application, you will receive more information about the activities and working hours by e-mail at the beginning of the summer.
Bar
What is a festival without beer? Exactly, nothing. With this position, you will be standing near the stages and therefore experience a lot of the festival, while you and your team are popping behind the bar. Tapping beer, pouring wine, making limos, nothing is too crazy for you and you like to work hard.
Crew catering
Do you like to cook? Then this is for you. In this position, you will help the cook prepare the dishes for the volunteers and artists. And what could be more fun than feeding all the hard-working people? Just like in a real restaurant, our crew catering is a place of hard work.
Flex
Can't decide which job you like best? Then this is for you. As a flex worker, you are multi-deployable wherever needed. No two shifts are the same, sometimes you'll jump in for an hour behind a busy bar and other times you'll help with the band check at one of the locations.
Foute Fietsen Team
During the festival in Vlieland, it is teeming with bicycles. To keep all roads bike-free, as an enthusiastic Foute Fietsen team member you will help visitors find a place for their bikes and put the wrongly parked bikes in the Foute fietsenparking. In this role, your presence is the most important thing, although sometimes it feels different. But, with a book and a game, you will have a great time and be a visible point of contact for passers-by.
Waste team
Do you think sustainability is important? At Into The Great Wide Open, we see waste as new raw materials. That's why we need a strong team who likes to make sure all the raw materials get handled in the right way. You like to get to work and are not averse to a bit of waste.
Reusable tableware team
At the festival, all tableware is reusable. In this team, you will take care of washing up and disposing dirty crockery backstage and return clean sorted crockery to caterers. In this way, you contribute to the festival's ambitious sustainability goals and are a linchpin in the festival's behind-the-scenes logistics network.
Information desk and ticketing
When guests arrive at the festival, you are the first person they see. You welcome them, scan their tickets and slip them a wristband. At the information desk, you show visitors around all kinds of things. Fun and educational, because you know all about the festival!
Art route
As a volunteer at the art route, you help give information to visitors who come to sit near a work of art. You love art and like to sit in peace and quiet. This is because the artworks are scattered around the island, often in the woods and dunes. When visitors walk by, you chat with them and tell them more about the work of art, as well as supervising them.
Merchandise
Are you ready for your sales pitch? With this function you will be in De Winkel selling all the nice Into The Great Wide Open merchandise.
Construction
More than a week before the festival starts, you set foot on the island to build up the festival. Together with a whole team, you will carpenter and work hard to get the island ready for the festival. If you indicate your preference for construction in your application, you will receive more information about the activities and working hours by e-mail at the beginning of the summer.
Construction and deconstruction
Do you want to know what it's like in the build-up and dismantling of the festival? With this position, you will help out in the construction right before the festival until Friday morning, after which you will be free to enjoy the festival and start again fresh on Monday with the dismantling of the festival. If you indicate your preference for construction and deconstruction in your application, you will receive more information by e-mail at the beginning of the summer about the activities and working hours.
Production office
We are looking for fast, precise people who enjoy working in the office together with the crew in the heart of the festival. Think of tasks such as taking care of bicycles for employees, issuing postage and other tasks that support the production.
Runner construction and deconstruction
As a runner, you will drive construction equipment from A to B in a gator. You make sure everyone can make the festival beautiful and/or help clean up. If you indicate your preference as a runner in your application, you will receive more information by e-mail at the beginning of the summer about the activities and working hours.
Service team
During Into The Great Wide Open, you'll be part of our Service Team. Which means you'll be friendly smiling and full of enthusiasm helping with checking wristbands, pouring over drinks, and maintaining our festival grounds. In this role, your presence is the most important thing, although sometimes it feels different. But, with a book and a game, you will have a great time and be a visible point of contact for passers-by.
